Critical Nozzle Test Stands

Critical Nozzle Test Stands

Critical Nozzle Test Stands are very widely used for testing components from very low effective areas up to levels which are essentially limited by the air supply requirement.

Typical applications include: turbine blade and nozzle guide vane cooling holes; fuel nozzle air circuits; air features in liquid nozzles and burners. Leamount test stands are normally configured to meet the customer requirements expressed as: effective area range; pressure ratio range;flow number; and available air supply pressure (flow availability is assumed). This information will allow the number and size of the critical nozzle flow channels to be determined.

Portable Air Flow Test Stand

Leamount provides a portable critical nozzle test system which can be taken to site for example during overhaul of a gas turbine power station. The equipment is housed in two boxes and consists of: an air filter and pressure regulator assembly; a nozzle approach tube with RTD and pressure tapping; an exit tube; a set of critical nozzles; a test part approach tube with RTD; all necessary hoses and fittings; and a box containing the pressure transducers and data logger. The data logger is controlled by a laptop application which provides all the control and display. The equipment is straight forward to setup and has identical performance to the fixed test stands except multi channel combination is not possible.

Key features of Leamount
critical nozzle test stands include:

  • Highest quality materials - Swagelok stainless steel valves and tubing
  • Traceable air calibration of all nozzles with their approach tubes
  • High accuracy pressure instruments including separate barometric transducer
  • Platinum resistance thermometer for temperature measurement
  • Multiple flow channel combination - to maximise overlap and total range
  • Insitu calibration
  • Dual flow output control - option - e.g. where test parts require flow balancing
  • built-in leak test
  • Automatic pressure ratio control - option
  • Automatic valves - option
  • Golden master comparison cycle
  • Acoustic test chamber - option
  • Tooling and fixtures
